Emily In Paris Season 4: Phillipine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold & Bruno Gouery Talk Big Changes At Agence Grateau (2024)

Warning: SPOILERS for Emily In Paris season 4, part 1!

Summary

  • Sylvie must make a crucial choice amidst a scandal at JVMA at the start of Emily In Paris season 4.
  • Leroy-Beaulieu discusses Sylvie's opportunity to tackle important justice issues.
  • Julien's loyalty shines as he takes a big step and Luc navigates personal and professional challenges.

Emily in Paris returns for season 4 after a bombshell cliffhanger ending that sent Emily Cooper's world spinning. Just as Camille and Gabriel were about to get married, Camille called the whole thing off and revealed she was pregnant in the process. This led Alfie to break up with Emily despite their potential partnership in the AMI campaign that Agence Grateau is working on.

Fortunately, Agence Grateau has Sylvie (Phillipine Leroy-Beaulieu), the tough-as-nails Frenchwoman who runs the agency. By her side are Luc (Bruno Gouery) and Julien (Samuel Arnold), two associates who have weathered many a storm since Emily arrived on the scene. This season may be their biggest storm yet, though.

Emily In Paris Already Told You What Emily's Happy Ending Is

Emily's romances have always been at the center of Emily in Paris, but something else is more likely to be her happy ending whenever the show ends.

A scandal is brewing at JVMA, rumblings of which began in the third season. Now, though, Sylvie must choose whether to speak up, just as she's at the precipice of losing one of her most trusted employees. Screen Rant sat down with the trio to talk Emily in Paris season 4, including Sylvie's important story, Julien crossing enemy lines, and what Luc's favorite movie might be.

Phillipine Leroy-Beaulieu On Why Sylvie Speaking Up Is Important

The JVMA Sexual Harassment Scandal Culminates In A Damning Article

Sylvie finds herself with the opportunity to speak out against her longtime rival in Emily in Paris season 4 and with a story brewing since season 3, Leroy-Beaulieu is excited to finally talk about it. "[Darren Star] was already hinting at this and I think he knows that I'm into justice," she says of Sylvie's choice to speak up. Leroy-Beaulieu believes that Sylvie's choice is a great way to tackle a delicate subject.

"It really shows that my generation has not been tackling these issues, trying to sweep them under the rug and coping with them, whereas the younger generation is talking much more today," she says, explaining why Sylvie feels the urge to speak out. "Sylvie feels the urge to talk because she feels the urge to talk for the younger generation, too, which is something that I really liked."

Leroy-Beaulieu continues, "I liked the line that she has about not being a victim, because I think you grow out of obstacles, and [it] makes you braver [and] stronger. [It] makes you bloom." It's not over yet, though. With Louis de Leon's misdeeds now publicized, the impact this will have on Agence Grateau and those in Emily's orbit is only beginning."It snowballs there. It affects everybody's life actually... Mindy's life, Emily's life." It also affects Julien's life.

After already growing tired of Emily's meddling in his campaigns, Julien finally decides to work for JVMA, leaving Agence Grateau. "I was so happy because I think that if you try to make a change and nothing is changing, you got to make a big move for it to happen," Arnold says of Julien's move. That doesn't mean he's forgotten his friends and former co-workers, though: "I loved what he decided to do, and I also love his sense of loyalty, no matter what. I got to have some beautiful scenes with Philippine through that process."

If it's about to go down, you know that Julien or Luc are going to be feeding [her] information or going on a mission.

No matter what happens, Julien will be there to protect Sylvie and Agence Grateau."Julien is definitely one of Sylvie's right-hand agents. If it's about to go down, you know that Julien or Luc are going to be feeding [her] information or going on a mission."

Luc has his own problems to deal with this season, namely his girlfriend Marianne and her status as a Michelin inspector. That still gives him plenty of time to lament about the ways his friends are behaving. At one point, the Frenchmen decries modern cinema, citing Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura as one of his favorites, before saying that in today's world, we are too connected to make good cinema.
