Sing 2 is the surprisingly successful and well-reviewed sequel to the first Sing movie. It follows the wide ensemble cast of characters from the first film, with a few additions. The main plot consists of the team attempting to get a play done on a bigger stage in the big city. Unfortunately, many obstacles are put in their way, and they have little time to put on the performance of their lives.
Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey)
Buster is a koala who owns the New Moon Theater. He directs and writes all the shows performed there. In this movie, he wants to take his performances to the next level, get out of his small theater and act on a "big stage." When the talent agent does not give him his ticket to success, he takes it into his own hands, sneaking into an audition and winning over Jimmy Crystal, a Media Entertainment owner, through a lie Buster now needs to make come true.
Buster is often willing to do anything to make his dreams come true, including putting his own life in danger to make sure his play gets to be performed.
Rosita (Reese Witherspoon)
In the last movie, Rosita is a pig who went from a housewife of 25 piglets who had given up on her dreams to someone who does both. She follows Buster to the big city and is cast as the lead in the play. However, she is cut from that role for a while because of her fears of heights, as the position requires her to fly on a wire.
Ultimately, she gets over her fear of heights when she needs to save Buster from falling. Reese Witherspoon's performance is delightful as a mother who loves her children but wants to do even more with life.
Ash (Scarlett Johansson)
Ash is a porcupine punk rock guitarist who Buster asks to come back to perform with them again after she leaves to pursue her rock career. She helps Buster cover up his big lie to Jimmy, which is that he knows famous singer Clay Calloway and gets permission to not only use his songs, but that he will perform with them. Buster does not even know who Calloway is when he suggests and lies about the idea.

Ash is the one who gets through to Calloway, inspiring him again and helping him find his love of music. Scarlett Johansson's performance uses her wonderfully distinct and lower-toned, slightly gritty voice to great effect.
Jimmy Crystal (Bobby Cannavale)
Jimmy is a wolf and media owner who runs Crystal Entertainment. He's a cutthroat CEO of the company and is willing to do anything for his image and reputation. Buster finds this out as Crystal almost kills him multiple times throughout the movie. In the end, Jimmy is taken into custody by the cops.
Johnny (Taron Egerton)
In the last film, Johnny is a teenage gorilla who left his father's criminal gang to become a singer. Now he is put through a new obstacle as he has to learn to dance. He tries to learn from "the best" but can't work with the teaching style, so he goes out in search of his own instructor in one of the best character arcs of the film.
Meena (Tori Kelly)
Meena is a teenage elephant who previously overcame severe stage fright but now suffers from another one of her fears. She likes a boy named Alfonso (Pharrell Williams), an elephant and ice cream vendor. She goes back and forth between not knowing how to talk to Alfanso, and not knowing how to pretend to be in love with her on-stage love interest Darius (Eric André), an eccentric Yak who is a bit too over the top for Meena's shyness.
Gunter (Nick Kroll)
Gunter is a passionate dancing pig, Rosita's dance partner, and fan favorite who returns to this film with just as much spunk as last time. He is funny and extroverted, and always willing to help. In this film, he tries to help Rosita with her fear of heights with little success. It's the thought that counts, though, and Nick Kroll is as hilarious as always.
Porsha Crystal (Halsey)
Porsha is the spoiled wolf daughter of Jimmy Crystal. In the beginning, she seems as selfish as her father and seems to get whatever she wants. However, later we see she wishes to break free from her father and go out alone. She wants to live her life free of his company's clutches.
Suki Lane (Chelsea Peretti)
Suki Lane is Jimmy's haughty dog assistant and talent scout. She plays a minor role in this film, but an important one. She tells Buster he can't handle the big leads, and we find out later she was trying to save him from Jimmy, as she knows how horrible a person he can be. She helps Buster escape at the movie's end and allows them to perform their show. Chelsea Peretti's wonderfully dry, sarcastic voice fits her perfectly.

Nooshy (Letitia Wright)
Nooshy is a lynx street dancer who Johnny finds on the streets. He sees her and immediately thinks she can help him regain his confidence in dancing and teach him the choreography. So she takes on the challenge and makes a bet with the old instructor that Johnny will be able to out-dance him when she's through with him.
Clay Calloway (Bono)
Clay is a white-maned, middle-aged lion. He was once a rock legend until his wife, Ruby, passed away. Then, he cut himself off from society, lost his sense of music, and cast out everyone. Ash is the one who sympathizes with him, tells him she can't imagine the pain he feels, but tells him all the great things about his music.
Ultimately, he decides to try music once more, feeling alive again when he gets onto the stage. Bono, a legendary musician, is the perfect choice to play Clay, a rock legend of equal caliber.
Klaus Kickenklober (Adam Buxton)
Klaus Kickenklober is a proboscis monkey and Johnny's original dance instructor. His strict teachings and quick-paced environment make it impossible for Johnny to learn under him. Klaus is offended when Johnny gets a new instructor, and during the live performance, instead of the actor Johnny was supposed to dance-fight against, Klaus appears instead. In the end, Johnny is victorious, and Klaus admits defeat.
Miss Crawly (Garth Jennings)
Miss Crawly is an elderly iguana with a glass eye who works as Buster's assistant. She often gets into trouble but is a fun character in the franchise and another excellent example of how an A-list voice acting cast can add so much to an animated film like Sing 2. She is the one who discovered Clay's whereabouts, a feat none had been able to do before.
Nana Noodleman (Jennifer Saunders)
She is a sheep and a famous singer. She is the one who inspires Buster to follow his dreams, and throughout the film, he is reminded of her inspiration. When the show finally goes on, and she is brought to see the play, the look of pride on both faces shows their friendship.
