What are the garbage rules in the town of Islip? ›

TRASH: Household trash including wood, flooring, tiles, wallboard, car- pet, etc. should be placed in pails, securely tied in bundles or bags under 4'x2'x2' and 50lbs. Manure must be double-bagged under 30lbs. A limit of six (6) bags, pails or bundles of household trash will be taken on either household collection day.

Facility Programs:

If you've recently moved in or just need to replace a damaged or lost recycling pail, please fill out the WRAP Pail request form. Your request will be forwarded to a Department Representative and you will receive a voucher for a new WRAP Recycling pail within 5-7 days.

When your scheduled collection day falls on one of the six following holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas), your collection will be delayed by one day. All material must be placed out for collection by 6:00 am.

Each week you are allowed one bulk item. You must contact Waste Management 48-hours in advance (before your trash day) for ANY bulk collection. A separate truck and crew will pick-up your bulk item.

Open burning of grass, brush, leaves, rubbish, building materials and/or other combustible or flammable materials is prohibited within the Town of Islip, unless a permit for such open burning has first been obtained from the state or local air and water quality management authority.

Holidays. Groot's observed holidays are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If the holiday fa​lls on a weekday or is observed on a weekday, collection will be delayed by one day following the holiday, and Friday collections will be delayed to Saturday.

Holiday service will be provided one day later than regular collection if the holiday falls Sunday through Friday. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, service will not be affected. Residents are billed for standard garbage service through the Village of Wilmette.

The City of Joliet and Waste Management announce weekly yard waste collection resumes Monday, March 11, and runs through Friday, December 6, 2024. Yard waste must be placed alongside garbage and recycling carts, prior to 7:00 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day.
